I am a Portuguese Citizen living in Canada. Planning on spending time in Portugal.

    1. Do I qualify for free health Care?
    2. Do I need to have a permanent address in Portugal?

    Hi Fatima,

It depends on what you mean by “spending time in Portugal.”

Are you planning on living here (i.e. becoming resident)? If so, you would qualify for public healthcare.

If you’re merely planning on travelling here, you would likely need travel insurance and this would have more limitations than the public healthcare (i.e. it would mainly be suitable for emergency healthcare).

If you’re living in Portugal, you need an address here, yes.

thank you so much for the quick answer.

I should have been a little more specific. I am a Portuguese citizen and plan to spend 4 months in Portugal at a time, in a long term rental. Would I qualify for free Health Care?
