Portugal Golden Visa: Which Family Members Can You Include?

If you’re thinking of applying for Portugal’s golden visa, you may be wondering which family members you can bring with you or just include on the golden visa application.

There is a fee for each family member, but the benefits of Portuguese residency (and later Portuguese citizenship) are definitely worth it. These include ease of travel within the Schengen Area and access to the Portuguese health service. Remember: the golden visa only requires you to spend an average of 7 days in Portugal, and a citizenship application is possible after 5 years, so it’s definitely something you want to include as many family members on as possible.

Of course, you don’t have to just spend 7 days a year in Portugal. It’s possible, for example, that a few members of the family will want to move to Portugal for the majority of the year while one member might still be working in another country.

The following family members can be included:

  • Spouse (or common law partner)
  • Dependent minor children
  • Dependent minor adopted children
  • Dependent children aged 18+ if studying or financially dependent on parents
  • Parents over the age of 65 (or younger if dependent)
  • Dependent siblings under the golden visa holder’s guardianship
  • Other relatives (if certain dependency requirements can be proven)
