There’s so much to see and do on the island of São Miguel. It’s definitely not somewhere that you want to be left holding bags and suitcases. You want to be out exploring the lakes, the town of Furnas, or just wandering around Ponta Delgada.

Thankfully, there are one or two luggage storage options in Ponta Delgada and around São Miguel. This means that if you’re arriving before you can check into your accommodation or you aren’t leaving São Miguel until later in the day, you can drop your bags and get on with your day.

The easiest way to find a luggage storage spot? Use an app like Bounce or NannyBag. Both apps listed at least one option in Ponta Delgada. Not as many as in cities like Lisbon and Porto, but it should be enough.

Hourly Pricing COST Insurance Promo Code
Bounce NO €6.65 per 24 hours $10,000 PORTUGALIST5 (5% off)
NannyBag NO € 6 – 12 (priced per day) € 1,500 PORTUGAL5 (5% off)
Stasher NO € 6-€12 (priced per day) £1,000

Ponta Delgada Airport

You’ll also find a left luggage service at Ponta Delgada Airport (Aeroporto João Paulo II). As the airport is around 5-10 minutes from the city centre by taxi, finding a luggage storage spot in the centre of Ponta Delgada may be a better option, but this option could work for some people. Rates and more information can be found on the airport website.

As your hotel

As always, the easiest option is to stay at a hotel, especially one with a 24-hour reception, as hotels usually have no problem with you leaving your luggage at reception. Some may also offer late or early check-in as an additional service.

Airbnbs are great but as they don’t have reception areas, it usually isn’t possible to leave your luggage somewhere before checking in or after checking out.

Visiting the rest of the Azores?

Unfortunately, finding luggage storage on the other Azores islands is going to be a little more difficult, but we’ve tried to list all the luggage storage options in this article.
